I clerked for a judge at the courthouse. Next door to the courthouse was a polic station. I knew many of the officers because we interacted on the job.

There is the setting.

A couple of the ladies at the courthouse thought a blind date for me should be in order. I wouldn't agree to dinner, but I finally okay'd lunch. The man was supposed to pick me up at work for a lunch date.

His form of transportation was a motorcycle, which I did not know at the time, a big Harley...and it broke down. He pushed it to the court house. He was hot, tired, and a sweaty mess. I was sympathetic. We went in my car. A convertible.

I put the top down on the car, and he pulled out a flask of whiskey and began drinking it. In my car, top down, in the courthouse parking lot, right next to the police station with so many people I knew.

I was mortified. I decided for some dumb reason to start driving anyway when he put his flask away. He fell asleep. I turned around and took him to his bike. I had to wake him up (not easy) when we got back to the parking lot. His response, "Did we go to lunch already?"

Definitely not a good date. It was our first and last attempt at spending time together. It's funny now, at the time it was just plain ridiculous.
